App Inventor Educator Collaborative

The App Inventor Educator Collaborative is a new initiative for empowering the next generation with critical AI & data science skills using the App Inventor platform. The program is free of charge and open to grade 6-12 teachers based in the U.S. By joining the program, you will gain access to:

  • Free and open-source curricula that promote problem-solving skills and computational action using App Inventor's data science and AI components in the context of real-world problems.

  • Professional development for integrating the standards-aligned curricula into a variety of cross-curricular courses for grades 6-12.

  • A community of practice that fosters knowledge-sharing and collaboration among educators through virtual and in-person forums.

About App Inventor

Founded in 2007 by educators and researchers at MIT and Google, App Inventor is a free, blocks-based programming platform that enables anyone—including those who may not think of themselves as coders—to create mobile apps for real, effective change in their communities.

The App Inventor Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that expands upon the initiatives of the App Inventor project by offering additional resources for teachers and students across the globe. Our mission is to empower students of any background and any age to make apps that improve lives, uplift communities, and change the world.

Why AI & Data Science?

The recent rise of machine learning, data science, and generative AI is rapidly reshaping the global workforce landscape. Inadequate access to these technologies poses a critical challenge for learners and educators, especially those from historically marginalized communities. The App Inventor Foundation’s focus for the next three to five years is to equip the next generation with the training, skills, and knowledge needed to harness the potential of cutting-edge technologies.

The App Inventor platform has kept pace with broader technological changes, with a recently refreshed user interface, parity between Android and iOS features, and new components supporting AI, data science, physical computing, and more. With our latest features and educational resources, we aim to focus on uplifting individuals who are historically left behind in computer science education, including those who identify as women, BIPOC, or other marginalized groups.
