About the Development Manager Position
We are seeking an experienced Development Manager to lead fundraising efforts and help achieve financial sustainability for the App Inventor Foundation. The Development Manager will be responsible for executing a fundraising strategy that will enable the Foundation to grow and thrive in the long-term. This may include overseeing grant-writing efforts; cultivating relations with new and existing supporters; or pursuing novel strategies altogether. This position is a good fit for someone who enjoys creative problem-solving, has a knack for networking, and is passionate about persuasive storytelling. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills and a strong track record in nonprofit fundraising, development strategy, and donor relations.
Role and Responsibilities
Develop and implement short- and long-term sustainability plans to support the Foundation's $2M annual budget.
Cultivate relationships with new and existing donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
Maintain a CRM system to track fundraising efforts, including data management and reporting.
Manage the donor stewardship process, ensuring clear communication, recognition, and ongoing engagement with supporters.
Proactively manage reporting requirements from institutional funders.
Research relevant grant opportunities from foundations and other organizations.
Lead grant writing efforts in collaboration with other members of the team.
Coordinate with the program and marketing teams to align fundraising campaigns with organizational initiatives and communications strategies.
Track and report on fundraising outcomes to the Executive Director and Board.
We’re Looking for Someone Who…
Has 3+ years of experience in nonprofit resource development and fundraising
Has a strong track record of securing funding for other nonprofit organizations
Approaches situations with diplomacy and discretion; inspires the trust of others
Is a strategic thinker and a creative problem solver
Has excellent written and verbal communication skills and excels at persuasive storytelling in various formats, from verbal pitches to detailed grant proposals
Enjoys cultivating and maintaining relations with new and existing supporters, including individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners
Has experience using fundraising software and CRM platforms
Is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities
Is passionate about our mission of democratizing app creation and computing education

Location
The work can be primarily performed remotely but requires travel within the US approximately quarterly. Occasional nights or weekend work may be required. If the employee is based in the Greater Boston Area, they have the option of attending in-person meetings at MIT during the week.
